Conference & Publication Calls for Papers

Call For Papers

John Cage

Deadline: February 15, 2012

The nief-norf Research Summit (nnRS) is currently soliciting proposals for papers and/or panel discussions for its 2012 gathering, held from June 1-3 at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.

To acknowledge and celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth, the 2012 nief-norf Research Summit will explore John Cage’s works and his influence on contemporary music and visual art. The nnRS will feature a John Cage-inspired Musicircus on Friday, June 1 and a keynote presentation on Saturday, June 2 by special guest Kyle Gann.

The nnRS welcomes proposals for presentations related to Cage’s legacy as a composer, thinker, and performer. Since the larger nnSF will be performing solo and chamber compositions for percussion, we encourage papers that might relate to percussion composition and performance, however we will consider all papers addressing Cage’s sphere of influence. We also invite non-percussionists to propose a work for inclusion in the Musicircus performance event.

Papers will be given 20 minutes for presentation, followed by 10 minutes for discussion. In addition to individual submissions, a group of 3-4 applicants may also propose a panel of papers united by a relevant theme.

Deadline:  Abstracts should be e-mailed as PDF attachments (max. 500 words) to research@niefnorf.org. Abstracts are due by Feb. 15th, 2012.
