The Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology and the Elie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies at Boston University are pleased to announce a conference on "The Jewish Influence on American Popular Music," a one-day event to be held at Boston University on Thursday, April 25th, 2013.  The aim of this conference is to examine and celebrate the central role that Jewish writers and composers had in shaping American popular music throughout its history.  We welcome proposals for presentations from faculty and students from any relevant discipline including musicology, ethnomusicology, popular music studies, Jewish studies, anthropology, sociology, and history.  Featured speakers will be Ben Sidran, jazz and rock pianist, singer, and author of There was a Fire: Jews, Music and the American Dream, and Seth Rogovoy, journalist, editor, blogger, cultural critic, and author of Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet.

Organizing Committee: Jeremy Yudkin, Professor of Music and Chair of the Musicology and Ethnomusicology Department, Boston University; Mari� Abe, Assistant Professor of Music; Daniel Singer, conference administrator.

Please email abstracts of no more than 250 words for 30-minute presentations to yudkinj at bu.edu by March 1st, 2013. Include the title of your presentation, name, institutional affiliation, and any audio-visual needs.
